Saskatchewan Bird Hunts Forecast
This will be our 4th year of operation of the "Running Hun" Lodge in S.W. Saskatchewan and the Dogs and I are looking forward to another great season
Saskatchewan received more snow than in previous years , the good news is that the sloughs and potholes should hold more water which should result in more ducks nesting in the area.
From an Upland Bird perspective this also means more cover which should result in an increase in the bird (Huns and Sharptails) population.
We still have some openings so if you are interested please contact me for rates and dates
Selman Ranch --Buffalo Oklahoma
Bobwhite Quail are one of the most popular Game-birds in the U.S.A , and I cannot think of a better place to pursue them than on the Selman Ranch in North West Oklahoma , the rolling prairie grasslands remind me of Saskatchewan,
the "folks" are super friendly and Sue Selman's cooking ensures you won't loose any weight from all the walking! in my opinion this what Bob White hunting is all about !
I ventured out to the ranch in January and despite tough scenting conditions we experienced good numbers of "wild "Bobwhites , when scenting conditions improved we where able to get a handle on the Quail population
and moved 9 coveys in 2 1/2 hours .. not bad !
So far things are looking good in North West Oklahoma ,they have had a good amount of rain and if things continue we should experience another good to great year .
If you are interested in a truly great Bob White hunt and some awesome scenery please contact me .
Arizona Bird Hunts ...Patagonia Arizona
Once again I will be offering a limited number of guided hunts for Mearns ,Gambles and Scaled Quail here in South East Arizona .
This past season was awesome ,I primarily focused in on Mearns Quail as their numbers where excellent. For the 2009 - 2010 season I am expecting a slight increase in Gambles numbers ,we will have to wait and see what sort of Summer or Monsoon rains we get to determine what the Mearns and Scaled Quail numbers. Arizona is a great place to be ,especially in Winter ! on top of great weather and wing-shooting there are plenty of other activities to see or do for the hunter and non-hunter alike

Mearns and Elegante Quail --- Sonora Mexico
Long story short, I ventured down into old Mexico on a validated report on a potential Elegante and Mearns Quail venue , I was not disappointed ! in 15 minutes we saw 7 coveys of Elegante Quail and in our drive up into the mountains we almost ran over 4 coveys o mearns quail and walk up another two covey's (without dogs) .The area also boasts a decent population of Gambles Quail .. the draw for wingshooters is that all the birds we saw where very dumb! They have NEVER HEARD AN ANGRY SHOT fired in their direction ! This has the potential o be a great collectors hunt and a return exploratory trip is in the works for mid to Late February ......interested ? contact me
Top Gear Picks
Mother vests
I wore two of Mother Vest's this year, the Day Pack and the RIdgline , I really liked the way they both distributed the weight , however being an ex-Paratrooper the more I can carry the better and with the Ridge Line I was able to really load up on stuff and hardly noticed the weight

R.S.T Shotgun Shells
Most of the guns I shoot are 16 gauge Side by Sides chambered for 21/2 inch shells , being older guns I also don't want or need to shoot heavy loads (over 1 oz) my favorite load for quail this year was a 7/8 oz 71/2 shot in a 21/2 in shell . the manufacture of this load is R.S.T shotgun shells .
They have a wide range of shells for all gauges including 21/2 inch non-toxic shot for those older British guns ,they where also offer excellent service and the guys I talked to where very informative
